SMM is going greener. Green stands not only for environmental
sustainability and protection, but also for the continued recovery
of the worldwide economic climate for the global shipping and
shipbuilding industries.
On the occasion of SMM, the first global maritime environmental
congress – gmec – is taking place from 7–8 September 2010
at CCH-Congress Center Hamburg. This highranking conference brings
together over 700 leading representatives from industry,
government, academia, navies and environmental NGOs, to
develop and present concrete solutions for greener and cleaner
shipping. gmec will be held every two years. For more information,

SMM and gmec have also issued a joint publication the SMM
Green Shipping Guide 2010 which includes opinions from the
world’s leading shipping executives, environmentalists and
regulators plus a series of articles highlighting green credentials
and technical solutions from leading exhibitors at SMM as well
as chairmen, speakers and participants from gmec 2010.
