Thrilled visitors, happy exhibitors: Hamburg’s first own classic car show presented an exceptional performance for its premiere. Some 18,000 fans of old- and young-timers admired the most diverse types of cars over three days, enjoyed the varied programme and swapped stories with like-minded people. Most of the visitors were from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony. “HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS has taken visitors and exhibitors by storm” says Bernd Aufderheide, chairman of the management of the Hamburg Messe and Congress GmbH. “We made the right decision to start a classic car show in Hamburg. We aim to continuously expand the event. We are already looking forward to the Classics in 2018.”
A representative survey confirms the great enthusiasm for the new classic car show. 74 percent of visitors rated the HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS overall as good to very good. More than 70 percent definitely intend to visit the fair next year, and the word-of-mouth recommendations are very high at 86 percent. The majority says their expectations of the event were met and one-third indicated that their expectations were even surpassed. The old-timers (classic cars) met with the greatest visitor interest, followed by young-timers and parts and accessories. More than half of the people interviewed own an old- or young-timer themselves.
“The 1st ADAC HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS Rally for the DREAM CAR CUP” was also a total success, organised by the ideal partner of the fair, ADAC Hansa e.V. during HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS. Some 60 old- and young-timers started the 150-km tour from the forecourt of the exhibition grounds. The chairman of ADAC Hansa e. V., Ingo Meyer, states: “With HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS Hamburg has gained its long-desired classic car show. For ADAC Hansa it is a labour of love to be involved as the ideal partner. The “TRÄUME WAGEN CUP” has carried the fascination for old-timers from the halls into the city as an ambassador.”
As a media partner, Auto Bild Klassik is committed to the special show “Hamburg Automobile History”, which brought almost forgotten car brands such as Tempo, Wendax or Hermes back into the spotlight. Special exhibits of prototypes from the car museum, which supports HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS as an emotional ambassador, were also part of the event. Director Oliver Schmidt: “This was the first step in the - hopefully - successful future of the living passion for vintage cars in Hamburg to ensure HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS durably touches the hearts of old-timer fans, when creativity, guts and endurance will be needed. But as usual in north Germany: it can take a while, but it has consistency.”
The premiere event was supported by many prominent personalities. Motor sport legend Walter Röhrl visited, together with other legendary rally drivers such as his long-standing co-pilot, Christian Geistdörfer, and the former European rally champion Jochi Kleint with co-pilot Gunter Wanger. The motorcycle racers Egon Müller and Rolf Witthöft were also present.
Overall, more than 170 exhibitors from a variety of countries presented their products and services in three halls.
In 2018, HAMBURG MOTOR CLASSICS will take place from 19 to 21 October at the Hamburg Fairground.
